Overview

If you've never heard of Legions then take a look at the history of the game to see where it came from.

Any corrections or additional information about the history of the game would be appreciated, contact us with any details!

March 2006

Before the Games Developers Conference (GDC), two videos were released.  The first was a blog posting by Tim Aste, a very short video clip which shows someone skiing and jetpacking through a map.  The second was movement test 21, a rather long test video showing a player skiing for a couple of minutes.

Both of these videos created quite a lot of attention in the Tribes community, many players who were after a sequel game after the disappointing Tribes: Vengeance sales.

At the GDC, GarageGames showed off the tech demo to promote the latest version of the Torque Shader Engine (TSE).  Two videos were released to show off the engine, a gameplay demo and a technical demo.  Although there was quite a bit of interest in such a game being fully developed it was clear that GarageGames didn't want to create a game at this point in time.

It also emerged that the original idea for Legions went as far back as February 2005.

October 2007

InstantAction is announced, a new games platform which is web based.  Not your typical web games, but full games launchable through your browser.

Along with the hype various rumours were going around about a Tribes-like game would be released on InstantAction.  InstantAction did show that they were releasing an FPS game, however all we were able to see at this point was a blurred image.

December 2007

Disaster for GarageGames!  An unprotected video was found on the InstantAction site and was leaked out to various sites.  It was now obvious that GarageGames was working on an FPS title.

January 2008

Both IGN and Shacknews managed to get interviews with GarageGames' Tim Aste and Josh Williams.  They revealed the new title of the game that they're currently developing - Fallen Empire: Legions.  It was also apparent that Legions was going to be a web based game through InstantAction.  News of this spreads like wildfire through many different news sites.

InstantAction went into a slightly more open beta.  Any beta testers are given the ability to invite other people into the beta test.  Quite a few ex-Tribes players sign up, waiting in anticipation for news of a Legions beta.

The Present

We're still busy waiting for the game!
